Chipper Program
No-cost Chipper Service for Fire Hazard Reduction
The Chipper Program operates during low fire season months, typically November through June.
To participate in the Chipper Program call Butte County Fire Safe Council, 530/877-0984.
How to stack rows for the Chipper Program:
- Stack cut brush and limbs in a row within 5 feet of the road edge with the ends facing towards the road.
- Rows should be stacked no more that 4 feet high.
- Keep mud and rocks and roots out of the rows.
- Locate the rows so the truck and chipper can easily access them, no off-road locations allowed. Rows should look like the photo below.
Please note that chipped material will be broadcast in the area, not hauled away.
The Chipper Program does not provide chipping for orchard material or large scale timber harvest material.

The average cost to provide chipping for each homeowner is $150, but the service is provided at no charge; the Butte County Fire Safe Council is seeking contributions to keep this much-needed program operational, click here to make a donation!
